Do you wish to send and receive emails on your phone without GPRS? The answer is right here! Fifth C, an innovative technology startup in Bangalore recently unveiled BlacMail, a true push email technology that works on almost all Java and Symbian based phone models and does not need any GPRS connection to function. The technology is agnostic across all service providers and incorporates domains like Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Hotmail and corporate accounts, along with updates from Facebook, Twitter, Orkut, and job sites like Monster, Naukri and TimesJobs. BlacMail, appears as a separate application on your phone and the emails received by you land in a separate email inbox. It also combines the emails to prevent it from appearing in small chunks making the user experience extremely smooth and as close to the Blackberry as possible.
Technology behind BlacMail involves an external server (not your phone), pinging your mail server (gmail, yahoo etc) periodically (say every 5 minutes) for unread mails. If the server finds any unread mails, it then wakes up your phone to inform about the unread mails. This service does not drain your phone’s battery unnecessarily because your phone does not poll the main server (like in “pull” or “fetch” mail). The user also does not have to incur unnecessary GPRS charges because the external server (Blacmail server in this case) communicates with the mail server over the web and does not use the GPRS connection of the phone.
Talking about the need of a product like BlacMail, Mr. KrishnaMohan, CEO, Fifth C Solutions says “India is a cost sensitive market and not everybody can afford a Blackberry, Smart phones or a GPRS connection to access their emails. Also, Indian market’s developing and constantly evolving nature demands working professionals and students to stay connected with their colleagues/friends always.” Fifth C hopes BlacMail would crash the huge barrier of technology and affordability to bring elite and best technology closer to the masses.
