South Korea based LG electronics comes up with unique solution, network monitors in Indian market. But what are these network monitors concept exactly?
Let’s take a look what exactly the concept of LG novel Network Monitors:
In small offices and educational institutes, most of people use software’s like MS office, accounting tools, basic learning utilities and other software’s like these which are lightweight means they are not very graphical and memory thirsty software’s like MAYA, CAD and other animation, scripting, and graphically heavy software’s.
LG said that on an average only around 10% of resources are used by a single user. The rest can be used by others using this solution.
Concept of LG is very simple (As you see in the figure.), just make a CPU with higher configuration (it costs maximum up to 40,000 INR) and just plug LG novel Network Monitor and connect other novel Network Monitors to it. It can support up to 31 monitors, which means this system enables to connect multiple users to a single CPU.
So immediately there is another question here, how the system knows that another monitor is connected to the system? Solution: LG provide a PCI card, it looks like a graphic card and user have to just install it in their system and after running graphic card program, and user can connect multiple monitors to the system. Main novel Network Monitor has a smart chip in it. All the system is controlled by main monitor and other users are just works like a guest on their monitors.
Another interesting thing, each monitor comes with two ports where users connect their mouse and keyboard and control their programs. According to LG, on an average only around 10 percent of resources are used by a single user. The rest can be used by others using this solution. Sounds good but this solution not applies to every ware!
There are some limitations here to the system, not for the number of monitors. There are limitations on system upgrade. Also most of the people use windows XP and Windows XP Enterprise Edition which supports 4 GB of physical RAM. If we talk about Windows 7 operating system, currently there are many software’s which are not compatible for this operating system. Some major software’s are supported but some local level tools are not supporting to this new operating system yet.
LG also added the solution costs only around Rs. 11,000 to allow 11 users to share a single machine.
By rough calculation if any office wants to purchase 20 computers and if a standard system costs Rs. 20,000 it costs around 20,000 x 20 = 4,00,00 INR and if we go on the way mentioned above, CPU cost 40,000 INR and 20 monitor cost, maximum 10,000 each then it goes around 10,000 x 20 = 2,00,000 + 40,000 (CPU) = 2,40,000. It can save lots of money, space and electricity.
Overall, LG introduce a great solution especially for primary educational institutes. And yes there are some plus and negative points in any innovation.
